IBF/WBA bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue has officially announced his next bout, a December 14 clash with IBF competitor # 6 Aran Dipaen at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan. The bout will serve as half of a double world title along with Wilfredo "Bimbito" Mendez's mandatory minimum weight defense of Wilfredo "Bimbito" Mendez against Masataka Taniguchi.

As soon as this fight was mentioned as a possibility, many fans screamed at the discrepancy. On December 14 in Tokyo, bantamweight "Monster" Nawa Inoue will face little-known Thai fighter Aran Deepen.

The bout is really significant because it will mark Ino's first home fight since 2019. Inoue, 21-0 (18) and the current WBA / IBF Champion, will have the opportunity to show his strength in front of his spectators, as long as the struggle lasts. And it doesn't seem to last very long.

Dipaen, 12-2 (11) and somewhat ranked # 6 by the IBF, beat just THREE men who had a winning record. Dipaen, who is 30, has never been stopped, but he has never faced anyone on the level of Inoue.

Looking at Dipaen's record, there is no obvious fighter of note there; with Britain's Tommy Frank, who decided Dipaen in Sheffield, England in September 2019, arguably being his most high-profile opponent. Last time, in March, Dipaen stopped 26-11 Sukpraserd Ponpitak to take the IBF pan pacific bantamweight strap.

It is, as we said when it was first revealed, A terrible fight. Deepen (12-2, 11 KOs) is a completely disqualified opponent who only got his position in the standings due to his overvaluation of the IBF in his regional belt. It should be noted that this was not Inoy's first pick (21-0, 18 KOs). He and his team have reportedly tried to organize a tough fight with Raushi Warren and Gary Antonio Russell, but no one has failed, and Japan's strict coronavirus protocol makes it difficult for fighters to reach abroad.

So, we see "The Monster" ruthlessly again when we cross our fingers that he will meet Nanito Donier or John Real Casimiro next year.

Puerto Rico Mendez (16-1, 6 KOs) ended a 22-month suspension for his first defense of the title, which he took from Vic Saludar and defended against Axel Aragon Vega and Gabriel Mendoza. Taniguchi (14-3, 9 KOs), who lost to Saludar in a previous bid for the title, is currently holding the Japanese belt.
