Mayor Sebastião Melo sworn in the new head of the Municipal Sports, Leisure and Youth, Débora Rios Garcia, in a ceremony this Monday, 3, at Paço Municipal. She already occupied the Youth Directorate of the Ministry. “ Expect a lot of work, dedication, and willingness to make a difference from me. I assume with the commitment to continue strengthening actions in the areas of sports and youth”, she said.

Melo spoke about the importance of sport in the formation of citizens and as a practice to promote public health. “Sport and leisure have an extraordinary capacity for social inclusion”, he highlighted. The mayor also thanked his predecessor, Antonio Carlos Pereira, known as Kiko, who will lead the Brazilian judo team.

Débora has a degree in Physical Education from IPA, with a Master's Degree in Human Movement Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFGRS), and is a professor at Unisinos. She is a member of the Federal Council of Physical Education and chairman of the Commission on Higher Education and Professional Preparation.
